This is the really quick and easy guide to Dextroverse IRC. Follow the directions and
you'll be chatting in a jiffy.

First, to get on IRC, you need to either use our Web Client (click the web client howto link on the left), or download an IRC client.

A few good ones are http//www.icechat.net or http://www.mirc.com for windows, http://www.irssi.org or http://www.xchat.org for linux, or http://colloquy.info for mac osx

The main chat channel, #dextroverse, requires you to use a registered name. Just like
the Dextroverse forums, DVIRC requires our users to register before gaining full
access..

First, think of a name you want to use. Check to make sure its not already registered
by someone else with this command:

/nickserv info name

So if I wanted to use the name euphguy I would type:
/nickserv info euphguy

and would see:
Nickname euphguy isn't registered.

If you see this, skip the next step.

If you see something like:
-NickServ- youph is euph
-NickServ- Is online from: [email protected]
-NickServ- Time registered: Feb 27 00:38:06 2007 CST
-NickServ- Last quit message: Ping timeout
-NickServ- Options: Kill protection, Security

then that means someone beat you to it, but there's only a few hundred names registered
so you should find one available quickly.

Once you have found a name not already registered, you change your name with this command:
/nick newname

So I would have typed:
/nick euphguy

Now that you have your name, you can register it with the server with this command:

/nickserv register thepassword

So lets say I was using the name euphguy and the password i wanted to use was
str0ngpw7, I would type:
/nickserv register str0ngpw7

and I would see:

-NickServ- Nickname euphguy has been registered to you.
-NickServ- Your password is str0ngpw7 -- remember this for later use.

All set! now you can join the main channel by typing:
/join #dextroverse

Next time you connect to the server, instead of registering, you need to identify for
your name with this command:
/nickserv identify thepassword

So in my case as euphguy, that would be:
/nickserv identify str0ngpw7

If you are still somehow stuck, /join #entrance and ask for help. Be patient if no one immediately responds, we may be busy or away from the computer.
