"Area drug dealers are attempting to stay a step ahead of the law through the use of the Internet, according to Hurley and Ashland police.

Hurley police are investigating a complaint that a man is widely selling a drug he obtained from the Internet. A Hurley woman and her daughter bought DXM, which is apparently a legal drug obtained by the man over the Internet. Dextromethorphan, sold as DXM, is a suppressant found in many over-the-counter cough syrups. According to the statement Hurley police received from the woman, it can act like acid, causing bad trips.

Police obtained a three-page statement from the woman is which she expresses concerns about DXM's effects on her friends and family. She mentions "eating (DXM) every day and tripping in my sleep." She said it is being sold in powder form and is mixed into a drink. The woman named the man who has been selling the DXM, but since it doesn't appear to be an illegal substance, no arrest has resulted. "
