"Legislators rebuffed one of Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem's drug enforcement initiatives on Monday, defeating a proposal to make it illegal for drug stores to sell certain types of cough medicine to minors.

The legislation "just doesn't make any sense," said Rep. Robin Weisz, R-Hurdsfield. "It's just going well beyond where I think we need to go with this."

Stenehjem asked lawmakers to bar sales of nonprescription remedies that included the substance dextromethorphan, or DXM. It is a cough suppressant, and used in Robitussin and Coricidin cough medicines."
