Default Robbery by umbrella case heads to court - 12-08-2011, 09:43 PM

The case of a man who allegedly robbed a Chambersburg restaurant with an umbrella will move forward in the Franklin County court system. Colin Anthony Rea, 18, of 13459 Sandy Mount Road, Orrstown, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court. In addition to the robbery case, he also waived his hearing on an earlier charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
His arraignment is set for Jan. 18 in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.
Chambersburg Police alleged in charging documents that Rea robbed Fox's Pizza, 434 Gateway Ave., just before 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. He told investigators that he used an umbrella "which had been modified by removing the fabric so it would look more like a weapon," the affidavit states.
Witnesses reported that he was wearing pink gloves, a dark hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask over his face. Rea told police that he got about $100 in the robbery, and threw the umbrella at a man who confronted him outside the restaurant.
He remains at Franklin County Jail, previously charged with robberies in Letterkenny, Greene and Lurgan townships. He is accused of holding up Varner's Country Store, Super 8 Motel and Kenmar Motel.
Rea was also charged with driving under the influence of dextromethorphan (DXM), an active ingredient found in some cough medicines, on Oct. 15. Chambersburg Police stopped his 1994 Toyota for having the trunk lid open and a broken
brake light. His eyes were allegedly boodshot and glassy, and he showed signs of impairment during a coordination test. A blood test showed no presence of alcohol, but 84 ng/mL of DXM. The legal limit is 5 ng/mL, according to the affidavit.
In other central court news, a judge ruled Tuesday that there was enough evidence to uphold the charges against a Hamilton Township man arrested a third time for allegedly impersonating a public official.
Christopher C. Garrison, 19, remains incarcerated at Franklin County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. His arraignment is set for Jan. 18 in the county's court of common pleas.
He is accused of using a flashing red light to force another driver to pull over Nov. 27 on Tallow Hill Road.
At the time of his arrest he was on parole stemming from another impersonation incident. In that case he pretended to be a firefighter to gain access to a woman's home and stayed there for several hours before soliciting her phone number.
