The Franklin-Fulton County Drug and Alcohol Program displayed legal and illegal drugs and drug equipment at its booth.

"A lot of the parents say they didn't know what the drugs look like," said George Reitz, prevention specialist trainee. "The kids unfortunately already know. It's in the schools."

Reitz told visitors to the booth about new forms of prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse called robotripping and farming.

Robotripping involves drinking three or four bottles of cough syrup such as Robitussin to experience a high, Reitz said.

"They may throw up, get dizzy, have seizures or muscle spasms," symptoms similar to those caused by heroin or cocaine, Reitz said.

Farming involves children who raid their parents' medicine chests or steal pills from a pharmacy and have a party, Reitz said.

"They put the pills together in a mixing bowl and challenge each other to take them to see what effect they have," Reitz said. "They think the pills are safe because Mom and Dad take them. Parents need to be educated, and to talk to their kids."

The farming thing can't possibly be true.

One common thread in all of these articles is the concentration on side effects that are either rare or only occur with extreme overdoses and teens who do idiotic things that are beyond belief. The kids in the articles always do the stupidest things. It's like watching Jerry Springer and asking someone to believe that that is what normal people are like. I like to believe that most teens have a little more common sense. You can still do stupid things with drugs and not go to nearly the extreme these articles describe. I would be more worried about a kid taking dxm at a party and forcing himself to drive home because he was afraid to let anyone know he was intoxicated than I would worry about a bunch of kids sitting around a bowl of grandma's blood pressure medicine daring each other to take one and see what it will do.

Im not sure if "pharming" exsist quite like that. Though I do know that lots of friends at school will siphon pills off their parents whenever they are perscribed pain pills or antidepresants and then pass them out at school. They will also have me check up on the internet for anything they aren't sure about, like one kid who's mom recently got perscribed an amphetimine based drug for weight loss.

Has anyone noticced how they allways try to scare people more by comparing DXM to much harder drugs?

The first sentence in the last paragraph:
Quote:

A diagnostic tool called the dexascan measures bone density in the lumbar spine and hip.
The dexascan eh? Putting this in after the section on DXM. See they have a sense of humor!

I can guarantee these kids don't exist simply because if they did exist they would all be dead.

Never overestimate the intelligence of American junior high kids. This did happen in the county where my parents live--a bunch of kids at a sleepover overdosed and nearly died from randomly eating a lot of stolen pills out of a bowl. I mean, these kids took large amounts of Vioxx, Prozac, Xanax, and some other pill--the only one that could actually get them high was the Xanax, but they took this ridiculous combination just to find out what the effects were!

Man, I'd like to go to one of those things and swipe the drugs someday. Or just get high and laugh at the cops. . .like the drug convention in FLLV.
