Highly dangerous instructions are spreading on the internet on ways of using the prescription-free cough syrup Resilar for the purpose of getting intoxicated.

From Resilar one can extract dextromethorphan (DXM), which, especially in high doses, is an extremely potent and dangerous narcotic.

On several Internet chat sites used by Finnish young people one can find stories involving experiences of the use of DXM and even instructions on how to manufacture it. Some of the youth also drink Resilar as it is, with the result of getting seriously wasted and acquiring a nasty dose of diarrhoea to go with it.

The agent that causes diarrhoea if taken in large quantities was added to Resilar towards the end of the 1980s, when abuse of the product first surfaced.

Yup, I think Resilar is still the only medicine in Finland with DXM that's also without prescription. There used to be another one and its name was... um... oh yeah, Lagun, and I think it may have had an Egyptian god on its orange packaging if I'm not totally mistaken. People used to take cheap ferry trips to Estonia to get pills with mostly DXM and no junk but I think Estonia's not selling them pills anymore (not sure though).

The extraction of Resilar works pretty much like it does with Robitussin.

Edit: And I must add that this is perhaps the first time that the DXM use has hit the mainstream media in Finland.

A lot of brands in the states do too. It barely matters though, stuff makes you get diarrhea anyway.

Indeed, Robitussin alone doesn't exactly help your bowel movements, sorbitol is just worse. But seriously, when you're on it, you don't care that you spend half your trip on the shithouse, you kind of giggle at that thought and stare at the textures in the tiles.

im sure both countries do. Japan i know its been popular for awhile there. China, i didn't look into deeply, however in Hong Kong and Singapore and the like it is highly restricted, and rarely prescribed from what i understand. Japan, its no problem.

Japan :
DXM is legal in Japan. As of Aug 1999 we have reports of it being sold in headshops for 5000 to 6000 yen for 2 doses.

Singapore :
We have been told that DXM is Class A drug in Singapore and is rarely prescribed. (unconfirmed) (thanks DK)

Hong Kong :
We have heard that DXM is not available over-the-counter in Hong Kong, but instead requires a prescription.

(erowid source so take it lightly)

now you can buy dxm in headshops in japan, but not psilocybin anymore. fuckin' bogus. sad.gif

It's not. But people tend to incorrectly lump any and all psychoactive drugs into the 'narcotics' group.

In case someone's interested, the original article in Finnish reads closer to "Some of the youth also drink Resilar as it is, with the result of getting diarrhoea in addition to the intoxication." This paper (Helsingin Sanomat) is published in Finnish and the English version is perhaps only bulk translated to the web by some random translators who didn't write the original issue. It could be that the original author does the English version too. In any case, the original article did not use terms similar to "seriously wasted"; it did not say "vetää ihan överit tilat" or anything cool like that. wink.gif

The discussion over DXM died here in Finland fast (luckily), that was one of those articles the newspapers always decide to write up in the beginning of the summer. Just because nothing much really happens over here at that time.

From what I have heard they won't make it prescription because it supposedly is the only one cough medicine out there which actually "works".

Resilar is pretty nasty stuff though. I wouldn't drink it raw. These days I prefer powder instead since the extraction always takes long time to do.

Oh and those "instructions" (in Finnish): http://salamanteri.homelinux.net/fiveam/di...m_erottelu.html
It's just agent lemon extraction guide pretty much, with pics.
