Dextroverse Community > DXM-related News > Nassau bill would restrict cough medicine

Posted by: drdĒv€ Sep 24 2007, 04:45 PM
People under 18 would be barred from buying cough and cold medicines that are often abused by youngsters under legislation approved Monday by a Nassau legislative committee.

The legislation, which would cover cough suppressants containing dextromethorphan, was introduced by Legislators Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn) and David Denenberg (D-Merrick).

"When used properly, dxm (dextromethorphan) is great ... but when used in excess it can cause severe side effects, including brain damage and even death," Wink said at press conference with Denenberg and Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey.

Mulvey said he was jogging in Syosset two weeks ago and saw two empty cough medicine bottles on the trail that apparently had been discarded by youngsters.

The bill was expected to come up for a vote before the full legislature next month. A similar measure was passed by Suffolk County in May.

Oh noes, not a discarded bottle of drugs. I can't think of any other substance that comes in bottles that people leave lying around everywhere.

I didn't know it was possible for something to seem as if it was discarded by someone of a general age group. I mean, I didn't realize adults litter differently than 'youngsters'.

It was probably a bear...bears love the cough medicine!

Screw the drugs, those assholes were littering! It was Mulvey's civil duty to kick their asses for committing such a crime, but did he? No, so how can we listen to anything that he says? Then again, he is correct in saying that "when taking properly" DXM is great. tongue.gif
