Rochester man accused of providing pot at party where teens were burned faces theft charge
ROCHESTER — An 18-year-old city man scheduled to appear in court next week on child endangerment charges was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing cough medicine from Walgreens.
David Sammis, 18, of 66 Riverview Drive, faces one Class A misdemeanor charge of shoplifting.
Sammis allegedly walked into the Walgreens on South Main Street on Sunday, took three bottles of Robitussin valued at $8 each, and walked out of the store without paying for them.
Sammis was later arrested. He was arraigned Monday afternoon by video at Rochester District Court where his bail was set at $2,000 cash, which will convert into personal recognizance bail if Sammis is accepted into the Strafford County Community Correction program for monitoring.
He must also stay away from Walgreens. Sammis is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for arraignment on two unrelated charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Those charges stem from Sammis allegedly providing marijuana to at least two juveniles at a March gathering at a Whitehall Road residence where two teenagers were burned, one severely, when a 15-year-old girl allegedly threw gasoline onto a fire in an old-style woodstove. Police haven't revealed whether either of the two teenagers burned had smoked the marijuana or if the marijuana had any bearing on the incident.
Prior to his arrest over weekend Sammis was free on $2,000 personal recognizance bail.
He is scheduled to face trial on the shoplifting charge on May 22.
All three of the charges Sammis face are Class A misdemeanors, each punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
