Weekend Edition Saturday, April 21, 2007 · Lawmakers around the nation are considering how to prevent kids from getting high from over-the-counter cough medicines.

Children are deliberately overdosing on products containing Dextromethorphan, or DXM, and are increasingly ending up in the emergency room.

Some states want to ban sales of DXM products to minors; others want to go further and move DXM products behind the counter despite objections from the drugs manufacturers.

Just move the dxm products to an area similar to the nicotine. Behind glass, and ask the cashier. Prices will be relaxed cause of less theft as well.

Yeah, they always over-react to this sort of thing; they're determined to come up with a solution that's worse than the problem.

Shit, the next thing you know they'll want your address and follicle samples when you buy ANY DXM.

I can just see it now:

"Please pass your buttocks over this scanner.."

And males have to give a dick print. Just ink it up and roll.

I move for the restriction of sales to minors. I wouldn't mind spending a little less by just showing a card.

It'll be a hilarious day when some 13 year old comes up and asks me to buy him cough syrup. What's the deal with that? I mean I bought cigarettes for a minor once...and that's illegal. It's technically not illegal for a minor to have cough medicine...any ideas??

I live near Detroit and never get carded at the local CVS, even when buying multiple bottles.

The one time I tried to pay for my tussin, they asked for ID; Now I get my zicam free of charge. :sly: But in all seriousness, if they didn't acknowledge it at all then it wouldn't even be a problem.
