WARRENSBURG -- A Warrensburg High School student was charged Monday with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly providing another student with cold medicine to get high, police said.
The 17-year-old, whose name is being withheld because The Post-Star generally does not publish the names of those under 18 charged with misdemeanors or less, is accused of providing a 15-year-old girl with 8 Coricidin tablets, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
The girl sought them to get "high" instead of to treat illness, police said in a news release. Sheriff's Maj. John Shine said the girl took two of the pills and flushed the rest down a toilet. She did not report any medical problems after taking the pills, Shine said.
Corcidin is an over-the-counter medicine, but the teen was charged because it was deemed his giving the girl the drugs for an illegitimate purpose endangered her welfare.
The 17-year-old was released pending prosecution in Warrensburg Town Court.
Sheriff's Patrol Officer Anthony Bruno made the arrest.
