Generic cough syrup recalled in Canada;
some bottles have too much of the active ingredient

Canadian health officials say some bottles of a generic cough syrup have too much of the active ingredient dextomethorphan and the manufacturer, accordingly, has issued a recall. Officials say customers who have bought bottles with lot numbers starting with 2J29 and 3J29 should return the syrup to their pharmacies. The syrup is sold under the following brand names: People First, Pharma Choice, Procurity Encounter, ARP Preferred, Medicine Centre, United Pharmacy and Western Family.

* Health Canada is advising consumers across Canada not to use specific brands of a generic cough syrup that could possibly result in seizures for children under three years of age.
* Light-headedness, fatigue and slurred speech are other possible side effects of Cough Syrup DM marked DIN 02015781, with lot numbers starting with 2J29 and 3J29.
* The product may contain twice the amount of dextromethorphan (DM) stated on the label.
* At the request of Health Canada, the product is being recalled by the manufacturer, Jamp Pharmaceutical Corp. of Langley, B.C.
* Medicine Centre, United Pharmacy and Western Family.
* People should return this product to the pharmacy.
* Those concerned about their health after consuming this product are advised to seek medical assistance.

Hah! Could you imagine if you took a whole bottle to dose with and it ended up "accidentally" being twice what you took? You'd be dexxed out of your mind!

You're English.

Also didn't something just like this happen about a year ago? I think it was Benilyn syrup which had double the dose of dxm in it. I've never heard any of those brand names of syrup either.

Well, I can't say I ingest generics all that much, but good job, quality control!

The way I see it, it's "ROBO or NO-BO"

:nitin:

At least our gods at Robitussin know how to make syrup right!

I've always wondered if this is the case with Robitussin Cough Gels. One bottle is supposedly 300mg, but I feel like I experience more than I should with just 300mg when I take a bottle. Maybe the actual DXM content is higher than stated on the bottle?
