Thomas gets capital sentence

By Kathy

Jurors sentenced Andre Thomas to death at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Monday, Thomas was convicted of capital murder in the death of Leyha Marie Hughes, a 13-month-old baby. In the attack in which Leyha died, Thomas also killed the baby's mother Laura Boren Thomas and her half brother Andre Boren, who was Thomas' son.

Since Monday, jurors have been listening to the prosecution's witnesses urging them to deliver the death sentence and to defense witnesses testimony about mitigating circumstances Thomas' lawyers had hoped would sway the jury to assessing a life sentence.

The jury has decided. This is the first case where to my knowledge a DXM abuser has been sentenced to execution based on crimes committed while high on DXM.

Well this is gonna slaughter sales for cough syrup companies a little after the fda is "urged" to do something.

When will people realise that drugs don't make people do anything. The idea's and actions come from the person.

Sure, maybe the dxm destroyed his judgement, and he wouldn't of done it if he wasn't high, but thats like saying we should outlaw driving because people couldn't die in car accidents if we had no cars.

Even if my point is a little exaggerated, the message is the same, it's the people, not the chemical.

I thought the report said that after the crimes he had small trace amounts of DXM in his system and was thusly most likely not intoxicated at the time of the killings?

-raises an eyebrow-

How sure are you that he was high while he commited the crimes? I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe he was intoxicated (at least on DXM) while he did this..

Chances are he said that so maybe he would be acquitted, like when some people who are on trial for murder plead "innocent by reason of insanity."

It was the prosecution who argued the drugs made him do it. The defense argued he was just insane, and the drugs were irrelevant.

I think insanity pleas shouldn't incure lesser punishment.

The government needs to stop half assing for people with dispositions, whatever they may be.

If your going to run a law system, make laws that matter, enforce the laws that matter, and don't cut breaks for people you feel sorry for...hence, insanity or a "hard life".

Bullshit, I think they should incur harsher punishments....but on the flip side it's accepted 99% of the time. Also, so you can't pass on your disgusting insane genes, your testicles are removed with barbwire, with the other end attached to a big block chevy with Billy Bob behind the wheel. Females, well, you will be rituallistically masturbated 24/7 to mock porn films starring the Elephant Man ....cause I believe a lady should get what she wants, even if she is insane.

Oh, I only slept 3 hours last night.

Insanity pleas usually dont CAUSE lesser sentences... but it will help decide where a person is placed for the law they broke. like. comparing state prison to a psyche ward. some people just really need help. if someone is mentally unstable and you give them a worse sentencing in a prison or something where they arent watched and can hurt themselves, something bad can happen... and when they DO get released into the public, the chances are higher than ever that they will be worse than before.
