An ingredient found in some popular cold medications could increase your risk of heart attack or stroke, even in a young, healthy person.
Over-the-counter cold remedies like Sudafed, Robitussin DM and other decongestants contain pseudoephedrine.
A 32-year-old man recently became the fifth person to be treated for chest pain and other cardiac symptoms after taking the recommended dose of a decongestant.
Pseudoephedrine is similar to ephedrine, which was recently banned by the Food and Drug Administration because of similar side effects.
