CADCA is looking for talented coalition leaders to join our expert panel at an upcoming satellite broadcast exploring over-the-counter drug abuse. “The OTC: Battling the Over-the-Counter High” will take place on December 16 at 1:00 p.m. EST. While over-the-counter medications containing Dextromethorphan (DXM) are used safely by millions of Americans each year to relieve coughs due to the common cold or flu, there have been reports of young people intentionally abusing products containing the ingredient in an effort to get high. During the hour-long broadcast, viewers will hear a variety of perspectives—including a representative from the poison control center network, a retail drug store loss prevention expert and a person in treatment who has struggled with DXM addiction.

Has your coalition worked to educate your community about this issue? Do you have a local story to share? If so, then CADCA would like you to be a part of the broadcast. To submit your information, e-mail Mary Larson at [email protected] or call 703-706-0560, ext. 247 by November 15. Participants must be able to travel for the taping.

CADCA has been producing satellite broadcasts on emerging substance abuse issues since 1997, thanks to a partnership with the National Guard, the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training (MCTFT) program and St. Petersburg College. A number of renown former and present coalition leaders have been featured on our programs, such as Beverly Watts Davis, Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention; Henry Lozano, President and CEO Californians for Drug-Free Youth Inc.; and Jane Callahan, Director of CADCA’s National Coalition Institute. This year, several local coalition leaders have been a part of our broadcasts, including Cyndi Astley, Program Director for Community Action Drug Prevention Network in Salem, Ore. and Don Coyhis, President of White Bison.

CADCA’s broadcasts can be viewed free online from any site with a satellite dish having C-band capabilities. All viewing sites must register in advance to receive the necessary satellite coordinates. To register, contact Ed Kronholm at 877-820-0305 or via e-mail at [email protected] Registration is also available online at www.dlnets.com/MCTFT2nd.htm. A live webcast of the broadcast will be available at http://cadca.org and http://www.health.org.

Can't they handle a local satellite uplink? I turned down such an offer for an interview once. The travel would have involved just a limo ride to the local affiliate for a satellite interview.

"CADCA's mission is to build and strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create safe, healthy and drug-free communities."

Hmm...they seem a bit one sided.

I love the way they said several points of view... when really there is only one... And thats the negative point of view.
